Habitar deliberadament

Authors: Alcoberro Cirera, Ton;

Habitar deliberadament

Abstract

This work offers an architectural reinterpretation of Thoreau’s experience during the two years he lived in the woods, as narrated in Walden, in order to rethink contemporary domestic dwelling from a critical and essential perspective. Based on this experience, it questions what it truly means to inhabit: what our real needs are, how we understand comfort, and how one might live more deliberately—free from conventions and material excess. The project proposes a less enclosed architecture, more attentive to the cycle of the seasons and to dialogue with the natural environment, capable of generating a domesticity in constant adaptation. Comfort, in this context, is not understood as a technical goal, but as a situated experience: a shifting relationship between the body and its surroundings. In this vein, the text also argues that thermal pleasure is not merely a matter of control, but a cultural, visceral, and poetic dimension—capable of transforming the way we inhabit and design.
