Disseny del difusor posterior d'una motocicleta

Abstract

This Final Project focuses on the design and aerodynamic analysis of a rear diffuser for a racing motorbike. It is an innovative project that aims to transfer aerodynamic concepts from a four-wheeled vehicle to a two-wheeled vehicle. The aim of the diffuser is to generate downforce through the effect of a flat bottom, a technique commonly used in motorsport but little explored in motorcycling due to the geometrical differences between the two types of vehicles. On four-wheeled vehicles, there is space between the wheels that can be used to channel air for aerodynamic benefits. Therefore, the main challenge of this project lies in the fact that motorbikes obviously do not have this space. The project starts with a theoretical framework that establishes the basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and applied aerodynamics necessary to carry out a correct design and analysis. Next, the three-dimensional design of the diffuser and structure is developed using CAD tools. Finally, finite element studies are carried out to evaluate the functionality of the design.
