Abstract

This study focuses on evaluating the efficiency of a hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane in a distillation process for ammonia recovery from liquid streams. Various operational variables were investigated, including flow velocity, ammonium sulfate concentration in the permeate, and the volume ratio between permeate and feed. The objective is to optimize operating conditions to maximize recovery and final concentration of ammonia in the permeate. The study includes the construction of a laboratory setup, the performance of experiments planned through a DoE, the mass balances of each experiment and the statistical analysis of the data using MiniTab software. The obtained results will allow comparison of the effectiveness of the used membrane with other ammonia separation technologies, providing solutions for more sustainable management of industrial liquid waste.
