Abstract

This study examines the control and feasibility of a railway traction system, with a focus on modifying the traction substation and replacing the conventional converter with a MMC converter (Modular Multilevel Converter). This converter is a common choice in energy transport systems for renewable energies and high-voltage transport. A detailed examination of the railway environment is conducted, with a particular focus on the power electronics currently in use. The converter model that has already been developed will be analysed and adapted to meet the needs of the current railway system, which will serve as an example of the needs to be met or the demand for freight.
