This research project focuses on developing an educational video game designed for high school students from the 1st to 4th grade of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO, from 12 to 16 years old), aimed at helping learning in mathematics and physics. Simultaneously, it addresses the issue of the loss of interest many students show towards these subjects in high school, often a result of past negative experiences. The significance of this work lies in its potential to introduce an alternative tool that might change students' opinion and foster interest in these disciplines. The initial phase involved an extensive review of existing material about educational video games. This research was crucial for understanding current trends in educational gaming, identifying effective strategies, and recognizing gaps that the new game could address. This analysis provided a foundation for the development of the game. The next phase focused on the game design process. A detailed Game Design Document (GDD) was developed specifically for educational games. The GDD outlined the game's objectives, gameplay mechanics, narrative elements, and educational goals. This document served as a blueprint for creating the educational experience, ensuring that the game's design aligned with Compulsory Secondary Education level mathematics and physics curriculum. With the GDD finished, the development of the prototype took place using the Unity game engine. This phase involved the actual creation of the game, including the design of game assets, the implementation of gameplay mechanics, and the integration of educational content. Overall, this project has been a real challenge, but has also provided a valuable learning experience in game design and development. With the challenge of creating useful methods to make math and physics engaging, while expanding my knowledge on the Unity engine. Each stage of the process contributed to the development of new skills and the reinforcement of existing ones.
