Last October 2023 marked 20 years since the inauguration of the restoration works on the Broken Bridge, a highly complex project that allowed to regain pedestrian communication between the two banks of the Tordera river: that is between Sant Celoni in the north and Santa Maria of Palautordera in the south. But the recuperation of the bridge was much more than a simple urban planning operation, it supposed the recovering of a key element of the history of the Baix Montseny, abruptly cut off on February 1811 as a result of a military act to prevent (in vain) the advance of the Napoleonic troops during the French war. From the deflagration, it received the name the Broken Bridge. Until then it was called the Roman Bridge, due to the antiquity that various scholars had accredited to it. The modern Broken Bridge restored in 2003 has been awarded many engineering and architectural distinctions, and successfully passed the test of the Gloria storm on January 2020.
