This project explores the comparative performance analysis of object-oriented and data-oriented programming paradigms within the context of game development using Unreal Engine. The primary focus is to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of these two paradigms by implementing a scenario in both styles. The project involves the creation of a game scenario that includes a crowd of entities, meticulously replicated in both programming paradigms to ensure a fair and accurate comparison. Key performance metrics, such as frame rate, and frame time are measured and analyzed. In addition to the development time that needs to be invested to develop such a game demo. The object-oriented approach, characterized by its hierarchical structure and encapsulation, is expected to demonstrate ease of use and maintainability but may exhibit limitations in terms of performance scalability. In contrast, the data-oriented approach, which focuses on separating data from behavior and optimizing memory access patterns, is anticipated to offer superior performance, especially in scenarios with a high volume of entities. By conducting this comparative study, the project aims to provide valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of each paradigm in the context of modern game development. The findings are expected to guide developers in selecting the appropriate architectural approach based on specific project requirements and performance considerations. Additionally, the project contributes to the broader discourse on programming paradigms in game development, highlighting the practical implications of adopting data-oriented design principles facilitated by tools like the Mass Entity plugin in Unreal Engine.
