Abstract

Islam is a religion that appears at the beginning of the 7th century in the Arabian peninsula, creating a common cultural system that expands rapidly through the Middle East and the Mediterranean basin in less than a century, feeding on the local influences of the territories it conquers, without losing its identity. As it spreads, this new empire needs to establish population centers in order to secure the conquered territories, appropriating the classical legacy. Currently, the vision we have of this urbanism is characterized by an agglomeration of houses with patio and a winding and narrow road path. What relationship is established between the urban fabric and the pati house? Can the courtyard transform the urban plot?
