Multifrequency Antennas for CubeSats

Antenas multifrecuencia para comunicaciones de CubeSats

Multifrequency Antennas for CubeSats

Abstract

In the context of the 3Cat-8 mission, a CubeSat standard nanosatellite under development at the NanoSat Lab (UPC), the conception, design, and measurement of a prototype have been carried out. This prototype includes one of the essential elements for communications: the antennas. Designed to be placed on one of the external faces of the spacecraft, this structure aims to group the resonant elements for the L1 band for GNSS-Reflectometry, as well as the S-band for data uplink and downlink, and the X-band for data downlink. The technology used to implement these components has been microstrip antennas due to their compact and lightweight nature. However, the proper development has been affected by external limitations, ultimately leading to the exclusion of the S-band in the measured prototype, which has been replaced by COTS antennas.
