Abstract

This project deals with the design process of a wheelchair that meets the specifications developed with the collaboration of the health staff of the Centre de Vida Independent in Barcelona and the opinion of wheelchair users. The project is a response to the need for a greater variety of wheelchair designs that, among other things, can be accessible to people with limited financial resources. This project intends to inform the reader about the features and functionality of a manual wheelchair, as well as to highlight the need present in developing countries for more mobility options for people with disabilities. For this purpose, the design criteria and specifications are established based on the needs expressed by the people who daily coexist with this kind of devices and the documentation involved. From there, the product proposal is created considering the design requirements, to then make the selection of materials and analysis of the results, using the Solidworks and Solidworks Simulation programs. Finally, it has been possible to carry out a study that can be detailed in the annexes, giving rise to a new mobility alternative that improves the quality of life of the most needed people.
