Abstract

Due to the great vulnerability of the European economy with respect to the import of fossil fuels, the diversification and security of energy supply and the fight against climate change, the change in the energy model is being accelerated by increasing the use of renewable energies, but this deployment can generate territorial conflicts, especially related to the use of water. The conflict arises when the use of water for the purpose of generating electric power coincides temporally or spatially with other needs such as human use, irrigation, flood control, etc. Among the case studies is the replacement of non-renewable energies by hydroelectric power or bioenergy, taking into account that non-renewable energies also have a significant Water Footprint, which means that an increase in the two sources of electricity generation studied is considered a good option for achieving the desired environmental objectives.
