The brake-by-wire system is an innovative kind of brakes which is rising its popularity nowadays even challenging the conventional hydraulic brake systems. This system relies on electronic elements to exert a pressure onto the brake pads to slow down or stop the car. This is done by controlling a Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor via an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) within the car. To have a deeper understanding of how this motor will actuate over the brakes and its response under certain circumstances, a model in LTspice was developed. This model was validated with measurements performed with the real motor under specific conditions. After analysing the model and comparing it with the results obtained by testing the motor, it is concluded that the motor model developed in LTspice represents a close approximation.
