Revestimientos tradicionales de Santiago

Abstract

Los revestimientos cumplen una función de relevancia en la conservación de los edificios tradicionales, la de proteger la estructura de los muros. Por ser la capa expuesta de los edificios, son los elementos que están más sujetos a sufrir intervenciones, las que muchas veces transforman su naturaleza, y, muchas veces, su función original puede ser distorsionada. Desde mediados del siglo XX, muchos de los revestimientos tradicionales han sido reemplazados o escondidos detrás de revestimientos industrializados que deterioran y amenazan la estructura de las edificaciones históricas. El presente trabajo realiza el análisis del sistema de revestimientos de Santiago, a través del estudio de muestras extraídas de edificaciones históricas en tres barrios de la ciudad, las que se encontraban sobre diferentes sistemas constructivos y con diferentes terminaciones finales, pero con un sistema común de capas de tierra. Se ha podido observar que la reintroducción de la cultura de revestimientos tradicionales de tierra y fibras del territorio, podría aportar a la regeneración de los ambientes construidos, beneficiando a las edificaciones históricas, a los usuarios y al medio ambiente.
