Abstract

Esta investigación no es una recopilación documental sobre la historia de la cestería. Tampoco sobre vivienda popular. Es mas bien una mirada gruesa al uso de las fibras vegetales en la construcción tradicional de infraestructuras colectivas. Enunciar “fibras vegetales” en arquitectura pareciera provocar un ámbito de desinterés disciplinar contemporánea. La corriente institucional formativa actual ha desterrado de su inventario académico la posibilidad de considerarlo como material convencional de construcción. Considerar las fibras vegetales como construcción suspende el tiempo y remonta consciente e inconscientemente al pasado. Hecho provocativo para la conquista moderna para infravalorarla y calificarla como poco sofisticada para este actual mundo globalizado por la hight tec y la conglomeración de las grandes urbes privilegiadas, donde la atención pareciera contenerse mayoritariamente. Ámbito que lo hace vulnerable ante los agentes políticos, económicos, sociales, pero sobre todo rurales. Desvalorarlo, no solo conlleva apartarlo del conocimiento de la mera construcción física, arcaica, anticuada y corriente, como comúnmente se la relaciona, sino al hecho del desentendimiento del impacto de la autosuficiencia de su uso y técnica en contraste con otras disciplinas que se disipan a lo largo del tiempo. Sin embargo, esta presunción transmuta a bancha ancha cuando nos referimos al ámbito que lo involucra como cultura, por lo que conviene calificarlo de otra manera. Revalorarlo en tiempo presente - moderno y contemporáneo - asume un valor trascendental en las costumbres y tradiciones de quienes lo han heredado sin elección. La extensión del significado de cultura contamina - por inercia - a la ruralidad como escenario rústico y agreste, adoptándose un panorama en constante obsolescencia en la reflexión proyectual arquitectónica actual.
