Abstract

This project describes the process of designing, prototyping and implementing a patient-nursing call system for hospital rooms and nursing homes. The system has been created to be implemented on an existing call infrastructure that adapts to the current needs of patients and healthcare professionals. It is modular and scalable, making use of existing infrastructures to avoid unnecessary costs. The objective is to identify the origin of emergency calls, record the attention of healthcare providers, and store this information. A Raspberry Pi microcomputer is used to obtain the patient's button signal, and an RFID identification system is used to record the type of professional providing the assistance, along with other relevant variables. This information is transmitted via Wi-Fi to a server, which then transfers it to the control software used by nursing staff to monitor the room. The project is open-source, allowing the receiving entity to actively participate and adapt the system to its specific requirements. In addition to detailing the development of the prototype, the implementation in a room at the municipal hospital of Badalona is described, demonstrating that the system functions optimally in a real environment. Furthermore, different approaches are discussed for the receiving entity to obtain relevant data and insights through the historical records of call attention generated and collected by the system. This involves proposals for data analysis and an initial version of a predictive model based on the gathered information for each center. Finally, potential applications and functionalities that can be included in the prototype are addressed. The project has been conceived with future scalability and development in mind, allowing it to evolve into a more comprehensive system. In conclusion, it is demonstrated that it is possible to implement an environmentally and patient-friendly system in a healthcare setting that is scalable, cost-effective, and
