Abstract

In this Project, one of the most innovative technologies of Industry 4.0 is implemented, being the application of Digital Twins in the wind energy sector, which is the most advanced renewable energy sector in the world. For this purpose, the creation of a digital twin on a 30-metre high wind turbine has been developed step by step. One of the objectives of this project is to demonstrate how the implementation of this technology in one of the most successful clean energy sectors in the world is possible and effective. To do so, we will demonstrate its application and usefulness by developing it using a series of Open Source programmes and entities. Specifically, in this project we are interested in monitoring the state of the tower of a wind turbine; how it behaves under the different pressures it receives from the force of the wind and whether or not its structure could collapse. In this way, it is possible to demonstrate how the application of this innovative technology to sectors such as wind power has great potential, as it will be able to detect when the structure is in a critical state, and warn us in advance to take the required measures, thus making all the analysis and maintenance processes more efficient.
