Geometria i mapes

Abstract

Aquest treball està enfocat a entendre millor els mapes, una eina que ens trobem en el nostre dia a dia i poques vegades ens parem a entendre com i perquè funcionen. En particular, ens focalitzarem en els mapes que busquen representar la Terra. Usant els coneixements de Geometria Diferencial veurem com aquesta ha ajudat al desenvolupament de la cartografia. No obstant, comprendrem també que en altres ocasions la cartografia ha estat una eina fonamental per afavorir el desenvolupament de les matemàtiques. En aquest treball, entendrem quines projeccions entre superfícies es poden fer i com fer-les. Inicialment, farem una breu introducció amb alguns exemples simples per veure que no podem fer un mapa perfecte. En el següent capítol ens centrarem en la Geometria Diferencial per plantejar-nos quins atributs volem conservar a l’hora de fer la millor projecció d’una part de la esfera terrestre al pla i analitzarem si podem conservar-los. A més, repassarem el conegut teorema egregi de Gauss però també afegirem altres teoremes com el seu recíproc, el teorema de Minding, o també el de Beltrami. Dedicarem un capítol a l’anàlisi d’algunes projeccions concretes. Finalment conclourem amb un capítol dedicat al teorema de Milnor, la demostració del qual necessitarà eines de Topologia i Anàlisis Real.
