Abstract

This thesis begins by contextualizing the higher architecture school and the library where the collection of school materials (ETSAV) will be housed. It also explains the fundamental concepts of a Material Library and its purpose to provide essential resources for learning and education in the school. Subsequently, the thesis analyzes several case studies of some existing Material Libraries in the field. A singular schedule is made for each case exposing key components such as its structure, classification, interface, strengths, and weaknesses. This exploration is designed to obtain key learning that can be applied to our Material Library project at the Vallés Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSAV). The methodology used for this thesis has a practical approach, it initiates with interviews with expert professionals in the area, followed by the strategic planning for the initial phase of development of the Material Library project. For the development of the thesis, samples of the materials available are collected to classify and order them in the space given by the library of the school. Later on, it is made the selection process, photography, database creation, and how taxonomy is defined are explained. Throughout the thesis, the digital platform for the catalog is also developed. At the end of the thesis, are explained the results obtained after the development of the project and the learning obtained. It concludes with a synthesis of the Material Library´s results and a reflection on the materials learning and pedagogical implication in an advanced architectural school, finally, how the intention of this work is to contribute and facilitate learning in the field of materials for professionals, teachers and students involved in the area.
