Self-consumption installation with renewable energies

Authors: Alvaro Martínez, Adriana Alejandra;

Self-consumption installation with renewable energies

Abstract

The present project consists in the design and sizing of a self-consumption renewable energy based installation for the common areas of a building from the Barcelona city, in Spain. The technologies chosen for the study are mini-wind and PV energy. Therefore, the wind and solar resource in the selected location has been studied along with an analysis of the electric con- sumption patterns of the building. A software for calculations of hybrid facilities has been used to make a customized proposal with the main equipment needed for the facility. This proposed installation aims to help attend the demand and reduce the energy consumption bill. The project results indicate that the proposed installation covers the demand in a considerable part and it helps achieve significant annual savings. Furthermore, the payback period is around 4-5 years, which is considered to be a reasonable time. While relying on a more sustainable energy source and thus reducing their carbon emissions, the owners of this building would be saving money at the same time
