Abstract

This final thesis shows an alternative to mussel shell waste, a common waste from aquaculture activities and with great potential for reuse. The aim is to be able to evaluate the feasibility of using this waste for the design of an artificial reef. The Mediterranean Sea is defined as a study site for the implementation of the reef. Among all the biodiversity, the oceanic Posidonia stands out, as it is considered the lung of this sea and is in serious danger of extinction. A parametric design is proposed to shape the artificial reef, since it is able to meet the parameters set for the good development of P. oceanic. To do this, the Rhinoceros 7 program is used. The calculations and simulations necessary to assume a design capable of supporting the physico-chemical factors that will act on the structure are also carried out.
