Abstract

Nowadays there are many ocular pathologies that can lead to visual impairment or blindness, causing a total or partial limitation of visual function. For this reason, this group of affected people will see that in their daily life will possibly have the need to acquire some visual or non visual aid to move forward. One of the most common non-visual aids is the use of the white cane. This is why I have decided to do this work where, after doing a bibliographic search on what are the main visual pathologies that can cause visual impairment, technical aspects on the field of low vision, the visual aids that exist until current events, visual limitations and the different classifications according to the degree of disability, I was able to easily carry out the practical part of my work. The next step will be, from a group of healthy students, an action protocol to assess the use of ultrasound mobility system, specifically the “WeWalk” cane, and be able to analyse its operation and functionality. The purpose of this cane is to facilitate the mobility of the person thanks to different particular and technological features that differentiate it from other types of canes For this reason, I have made a circuit with some obstacles that the 10 recruited students will have to try to find and detect with the help of the vibration emitted by the “WeWalk” ultrasonic cane. Once the circuit has been completed, they will have to answer different questionnaires in order to assess whether the vibration it emits really helps them in detection or really complicates their journey. According to the results obtained in the “WeWalk” own questionnaire (questionnaire 2, Annex 2), the initial hypothesis since 70-80% of the objects that were in the circuit detected with the ultrasonic cane.
