Abstract

This Bachelor’s Thesis is based on the idea of solving the existing need to introduce the concept of sustainability in the restrictive pharmaceutical industry, especially in the packaging of medicines. The academic work focuses on two horizons: a short-term solution, where a proposal for a new packaging for tablets is developed using materials that reduce the environmental impact of the current container. And a long-term solution, which seeks to make several proposals to evolve the pharmaceutical industry's production chain towards a circular economy model. The project is based on the study of the technical characteristics of the packaging, the most used materials, the applicable regulations, and a market study to evaluate today's primary packaging. Based on the conclusions of the previous analysis and several creation techniques, three value propositions are proposed and tested by an ergonomic study with a sample of potential users. Finally, the work leads to an evaluation phase, where the environmental impacts generated by the new proposal are compared with the current packaging, a validation survey is carried out by the different Stakeholders of the new redesign, and a budget is generated where the functional viability of the container is also studied.
