EEtacVers: el metavers de l'EETAC

Abstract

The end-of-degree work developed below tries to give visibility to a new term emerging today, such as the metaverse. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digitization in many ways, and even education has been affected. With the obligation to suspend face-to-face classes, universities had to make use of platforms such as Google Meet, Zoom or Discord to be able to teach the sessions remotely. Therefore, the need arises to look for alternatives to improve the quality of online classes. There are two main objectives that are proposed. On the one hand, to make known what the metaverse is and, on the other hand, to ensure that in the near future EETAC makes use of the metaverse as a complementary tool in the methodology of the different subjects taught at school. It will have the name of the EETACverse, the EETAC¿s metaverse. In order to achieve the objectives, the key concepts of this topic are first exposed and also are mentioned previous aspects in history that have marked the evolution of the metaverse until nowadays. Next, there is an explanation of what currently exists and an explanation of the most relevant areas where the metaverse can be used and in what way. Finally, it is described how the practical part was carried out, starting with defining what technology was used, in this case Mozilla Hubs, and continuing with the steps that were necessary for the creation of the EETACverse. In addition, it explains how to deploy a dedicated server for the virtual room as a future proposal. As final results, it should be noted that all the technology must continue to grow in the same direction, since to use the metaverse it is necessary that the hardware and cloud storage also evolve at the same time.
