Abstract

In the last decades, refractive surgery has become one of the main methods to correct ametropia. Now, those operated patients become candidates for cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation. This supposes a series of difficulties, since the normal methods of measuring corneal parameters do not work with such accuracy in these subjects. Furthermore, residual vision prior to refractive surgery is usually not limited by low visual acuity, but rather by the presence of higher-order ocular aberrations. This is why it is necessary to know the correct methods for measuring ocular parameters, as well as the calculation and choice of the most suitable intraocular lens, in order to minimize the effects of aberrations and not worsen their visual status. In this bibliographical project, the guidelines for a correct taking of measurements are summarized, as well as the different formulas for the calculation of the final IOL, and not lastly, the types of existing lenses and their characteristics in order to guide the optometrist who develops his activity in this clinical field.
