Abstract

Nowadays, FDM manufacturing using 3D printing is widely used in many industries due to its versatility and cost-effectiveness. However, it is a manufacturing method that is quite susceptible to waste generation, as the material is often used to make supports and parts can fail during the manufacturing. The main objective of this project is to design a machine capable of recycling these supports and broken parts into new filament. To achieve this, first of all, a state of the art is made of the plastic extruders machines currently on the market and the open source code machines that other people or individuals have devised. Straightaway, the design of the machine is done with CAD software, the necessary dimensioning calculations are carried out for each piece and all the commercial elements necessary to make the set work are chosen. Finally, different sub-assemblies of the machine are prototyped, where, 3D printing is used to manufacture a large number of components of each set, afterwar assembled and if necessary, the appropriate code is implemented to analyse the operation of each subset. Owing to the time available to carry out this project is short, only some of the machine's sub-assemblies are prototyped separately. However, conclusions are drawn from each prototype and solutions are proposed for a subsequent design.
