Abstract

Climate change is currently the most significant threat to human survival and different industries are taking steps to mitigate its impact. The construction sector is one of those industires. The change towards long-term sustainability and environmentally friendly construction can be seen in different fields of the industry such as materials, structures, installations and design. However, these aspects often carry a price increase and require client education. Many construction projects that hold energy performance certificates can be seen as ideal examples of sustainability by most of the population. But many of such projects’ numbers don’t really add up and their effect on the surroundings can be far leas than idealic. These structures are often detached from the standard of their surroundings and context and therefore are not truly representative. This work aims to analyze and quantify a rehabilitation project by extracting data and highlighting the main differences between a regular intervention, and between those projects aiming for an energy performance certificate within the spanish legal framework, and to propose different, affordable solutions for the majority of the population
