Strategies for international climate goals

Abstract

The Project carried out at ‘’Avans Hogeschool’’ was made for the company Brabant water located in Breda Brabant water is the water supply company for the region of Brabant in the Netherlands. Recently, the Dutch government agreed the goal of the Dutch Climate Agreement, which was about the CO2 emissions reduction of 49% by 2030 and 95% by 2050 compared to 1990 approved a measured. These is thought to be done among the following sections as electricity consuming, construction, mobility industry and agriculture. First steps done onwards by the group were reading, planning and to figure out what the climate agreement was requiring to do and where. The group Project was made focused in specific sections which were the following: • Analysing and recollecting date from the company • Behaviour and awareness about climate change • Single use plastic cups replacement • Solar energy implementation • Latest technology in CO2 removal Once all data was recollected, the following steps were split and committed within the group project. The part myself carried out was solar energy. It was joined with one of the workmates. At the time we started this study, Brabant water was already installing solar energy in by themselves. They were using photovoltaic panels, being installed on a fix estructure. Our Brabant water tutor expected to be done for us just a research of the latest technology of solar electricity obtaining and also a plan for installing these in a specific water production location. The company invited the project group the a couple of Duch solar conferences being immerse between very important personalities of this world from the Netherlands. The group could learned tips and the cutting edge of the solar electricity world. Due to the ambition of the group had on this project, it was though to go further fixing the goal of obtaining numeric solutions to help Brabant water in a real sense by comparing their current fixed installations technology with a tracking system. For doing so, there was compared the vertical double solar tracking system and horizontal single axis tracker with the fixed system. This part was done studying the electricity would be obteined (kWh), cost and power installed (kWp) necessary for the specific location. There was shorted out the advantages and inconvenients whether choosing installed system or tracking. Furthermore, the C02 repercussion of each option. Once the project group arrived to final results in terms of cost and C02 saving in every section of the thesis, a final graph was done. The final satisfaction for the group was arriving to show up by a percentage number how the implementation of this measures would pay off. Thanks to this graph, Brabant Water was advised about their current state and the huge inversion and dedication yet have to done to reach the 95% CO2 reduction.
