Resistencia y comportamiento general de vigas alveolares sinusoidales de acero al carbono frente a cargas estáticas

Abstract

In year 2012 the company Arcelor Mittal presented a new design of steel celular beam. This new design was named AngelinaTM. This company also developed a software named Angelina in order to help to design these beams in an easy way and encourage designers to use them. Reviewing of previous works with the topic on cellular beams, the modes of failure that are exclusive to cellular beams were identified: The Vierendeel Mechanism and the web post buckling due to shear. Only one study with theme on AngelinaTM beams was found, which presents limited results and conclusions. The present work intends to study this AngelinaTM design and its behavior under transversal loading. For this purpose nine models of AngelinaTM beams were prepared in the finite element software Abaqus 6.10. All the beams modeled were simply supported, and had different opening dimensions and base profiles. Based on also variations of static transversal loads, rigidization and geometric imperfections 67 different cases are calculated. In order to validate the numeric model the results from an experimental study on cellular beams with circular openings [2] were used. The modes of failure observed in the present study were: the Vierendeel mechanism, web- post buckling due to shear, web-post buckling due to compression, local shear buckling of the web and crushing of the “T” section under compression due to general moment. It was concluded that before AngelinaTM beams fail under transversal static loads they always develop a Vierendeel mechanism for the range dimensions studied. Though the ductility of the mechanism formed is limited by the apparition of the other mechanism also observed, among these the local shear buckling was the most common. It was also confirmed that the inclusion of vertical stiffeners on the web-posts prevents the buckling of these members. Some general recommendations for the design are included too.
