Abstract

Visual impairment is a problem that affects around 285 million people. To improve the quality of life of these people there are different visual aids, which we could classify into 3, visual aids for long distance, visual aids for close distance and electronic devices for low vision. In the group of visual aids for close vision, we have magnifiers (manual and with support), telemicroscopes and microscopes, on the other hand, we have visual aids for long distance vision, in this case there is only one device that has shown real results in long distance vision, and this is the telescope. Apart from this, there are also the filters, which can be used for all distances. In recent years, significant advances in technology in the area of low vision have begun to be implemented, and thus electronic low vision aids emerged. Among them is the TV magnifier, the electronic hand magnifier, and the virtual reality and augmented reality glasses for low vision. Although electronic aids have numerous advantages that make them superior to conventional ones, they also have several important drawbacks that must be solved since they mean that their use is not very widespread.
