Abstract

In the following final degree project, the main characteristics of the most widely used polymers are described. - We also explain what are multi-layered and which are the main ones and if there is some compatibilizer able to recycle them in the case of being incompatible. - Two analytical techniques for the identification of polymers are developed in the present work, the differential scanning calorimetry that is feasible for the identification of polymers and multi-layers and the infrared spectroscopy which is not feasible for the characterization of multi-layers. Some physicalchemical methods for the identification of polymers are also presented. - A brief explanation of the recycle process of the company Anviplas S.L. is made. - Simple methods as a catalogue and a list of products that can cause problems are developed so that the plant operators can identify polymeric materials different from polyethylene and polypropylene. - Finally, several tests were done to recycle multi-layered obtaining good results using high concentrations of maleic anhydride a compatibilizer. The other test was the recycling of big-bags doing a mechanical separation of the polyester seams, the result was a pellet without polyester but there were some problems with the filters.
