Abstract

Litoral of Besòs in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona is one of the greatest receptors of environmental loads due to the mouth of the Besós river to the sea, which is under the influence of agricultural and livestock activities upstream, as well as the location of the industrial sector, urban dynamics and infrastructures of great importance for water, waste and energy management. These environmental loads can be recognized through the analysis of urban flows, water, energy and waste. By understanding urban metabolism, it is possible to identify causes and effects and subsequently potential industrial synergies that promote the circular economy and contribute to the improvement of environmental quality.
