Disseny battery pack MotoStudent electric

Abstract

This paper contains the steps needed for the study, design and assembly of the battery pack for the UPC-E3 Team motorcycle, which participates in MotoStudent, an international competition for Universities and Colleges. A study of different types of batteries used by all kind of motorcycles is carried out. The battery pack is composed of the propulsion battery, the engine control unit, and the battery management system, and is close to the electric engine compound the propulsion system of the motorcycle. Once the parts that form the battery pack are explained, a design is performed from the electric characteristics, considering the available space on the frame of the motorcycle and specifications of the MotoStudent standard. The design is made by CAD programmes which allow the modelling and assembly of all parts and a CAE simulation to verify if the design tested is correct. Furthermore, a study of the thermal behaviour of the battery during the race is carried out. This document includes process from the first design version of the project till the final design is achieved, demonstrating the development of the process. The results and conclusions are exposed and demonstrated in a theorical way as, at the moment, the project cannot be manufactured by our means.
