Most of the lightning flashes that an aircraft receives are self-initiated.The mechanism consists on the inception of a bidirectional leader from the aircraft that will connect the cloud and ground resulting in a lightning stroke. The intense lightning return stroke currents can result in induced perturbations or degradation and puncturing of some aircraft components. In this project, the conditions of lightning initiation by aircraft will be investigated.
The main aim of this study is to investigate the conditions of lightning initiation by aircraft, as most of the lightning flashes that an aircraft receives are self-initiated.
