Abstract

The use of mobile applications has been increasing over the years, to the point of having become nowadays a fundamental tool in most areas: communication, business, economy, leisure and health-related services. Along with applications, relevant progress has been achieved in the so-called “Internet of things”. This Bachelor’s thesis merges both concepts in order to find a solution to the issue that arises; The information of a city isn’t accessible to everyone. For this, the idea of a potential application aimed at people with visual impairment is introduced: an idea based on the design of an intuitive, simple interface which respects the accessibility regulations in mobile applications. The application is focused on providing information about public transport and traffic lights, on gathering all that information in one’s phone and thereby facilitating the mobility and helping with potential problems and difficulties that such users could encounter. A solution for the problem of the accessibility of information is sought, in bus stops and subway platforms, given that it has been noted that an important part of the problem is the accessibility in such means of transport. A lot of the design features have been taken from the interviews, since the opinion and experience of the users are of utmost importance, given that the design will be thought for them and they will be the ones benefiting from this tool.
