The aerodynamic mechanisms modifying the dynamic response of membrane structures oscillating in still air are discussed. Emphasis is placed on aerodynamic damping and its connection to vortex shedding from the membrane edges. A simplified vortex-particle method for the prediction of aerodynamic damping and added mass for two-dimensional configurations is implemented and tested. It appears to be valuable for preliminary assessments of the corresponding parameters.
