Indoor air pollution

Abstract

Nowadays a lot of populations in the world are aware of the risks of air pollution. There have never been so many people concerned about health issues related to air quality. These reasons prove that it is crucial to preserve the health of the sick and fragile people, by monitoring the air quality and warning them when the pollution levels are too high. This is especially true as most people spend most of their time indoors, and that some pollutants are more present inside the buildings than outside. The indoor air pollution must therefore be strictly scrutinized. The governments of different countries decided to install many air analyzing stations in their respective countries. These stations provide data for the surveys and weather predictions, but not always in real time. For somebody concerned about health issues, it would be much easier to have a personal device capable of directly measuring the air quality around him or her and sending an alarm when it becomes dangerous than having to check the predictions. The following report will present the reasoning’s followed by the students to create and indoor air pollution monitoring system. This includes the different steps of the preliminary researches, the conception, the production and the marketing of the product. The device was designed to operate with a Raspberry 3B and an Arduino Uno microcomputers, a through-hole board, and 5 various gases, humidity and temperature sensors. ThingSpeak, a database was used to gather the results and to keep them in memory. This also displays them via graphics. A fictional brand name, logo and slogan were created to advertise the device.
