Gravitational waves and new gravitational astronomy

Abstract

El objetivo de este proyecto es proporcionar al lector una guía para introducirse en el campo de las ondas gravitacionales: ofrece una visión global de los temas esenciales que les conciernen: comprender cómo se predijeron las ondas gravitacionales, la física subyacente a ellos, la base de los métodos numéricos empleados y los eventos de detección y consecuencias derivadas de la astronomía gravitacional. Nos centramos especialmente en el problema de coalescencia de agujeros negros binarios, ya que son la fuente más simple y mejor entendida de ondas gravitacionales por ahora.

L'objectiu d'aquest projecte és proporcionar al lector una guia per introduir-se en el camp de les ones gravitacionals: ofereix una visió global dels temes essencials que les concerneixen: comprendre com es van predir les ones gravitacionals, la física subjacent a elles, la base dels mètodes numèrics emprats i els esdeveniments de detecció i conseqüències derivades de l'astronomia gravitacional. Ens centrem especialment en el problema de coalescència de forats negres binaris, ja que són la font més simple i millor entesa d'ones gravitacionals per ara.

This project is aimed to provide the reader a guide to introduce oneself to the field of gravitational waves: it gives a global vision of the essential subjects concerning them to understand how gravitational were predicted, the physics underlying them, the basis of the numerical methods employed and the detection events and consequences derived from the gravitational astronomy. We specially focus on the binary black hole coalescence problem, since it is the simplest, best understood source of gravitational waves for now.
