El envejecimiento en mezclas asfálticas

Abstract

Uno de los fenómenos que contribuyen en mayor medida al deterioro de las mezclas asfálticas con el tiempo es el envejecimiento, el cual se caracteriza principalmente por un endurecimiento del betún. Es por ello que resulta de gran interés su estudio así como su efecto en el comportamiento de las mezclas. Para ello, en primer lugar, es necesario conocer que, desde un punto de vista temporal, el envejecimiento ocurre en dos etapas: envejecimiento a corto plazo y envejecimiento a largo plazo. Además en el proceso de envejecimiento intervienen distintos mecanismos, los cuales están asociados a cambios de orden químico, físico, mecánico y reológico. Estos mecanismos se dividen en envejecimiento físico o químico. El efecto del envejecimiento dependerá de distintas variables, las cuales algunos autores dividen en variables intrínsecas, o sea las características propias de la mezcla, y en variables extrínsecas, las cuales producen algún tipo de alteración en el proceso de producción de la mezcla, el almacenamiento y transporte y la construcción de la capa de mezcla asfáltica. Por último, se mencionan los distintos ensayos de laboratorio que se han utilizado a lo largo de la literatura para simular los procesos de envejecimiento acelerado de betunes y mezclas bituminosas.
