La formación de rótulas plásticas suficientemente dúctiles es el principal mecanismo de redistribución y disipación energética en diseños modernos frente a eventos extremos. En general, las rótulas se encuentran en zonas con esfuerzos cortantes que limitan la ductilidad; los cuales no se consideran en la característica de la rótula o bien solo se modifican según pocos modelos empíricos. En el TFM se estudiará la resistencia a cortante dentro de la rótula plástica usando modelos de bielas y tirantes, métodos de optimización de forma.
