Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PcBN) is a super-hard material with a multiphase composite character. As it is the case for other super hard materials, information on the smallscale response of PcBN is rather scarce. In this sense, the present work conducts a systematic micro-mechanical study of the mechanical integrity of a cBN embedded in titanium carbide as a binder. Chemical and microstructural analysis are performed with a micromechanical testing by massive nanoidentation. Main hardness for the binder, cBN particles and composite have been directly obtained from Ulm and Constandides method
