Proyecto Océano

Abstract

A lo largo del Proyecto Océano se pretende dar respuesta a la problemática medioambiental de la pesca accidental de tortugas marinas en el método de pesca de palangre de grandes capturas. La interacción pesquera con las especies de tortugas marinas en el litoral español tiene a lo largo de un año 10.000 capturas accidentales, ocasionando la muerte de la mayor parte de estos ejemplares. Los objetivos del proyecto son diseñar un dispositivo que implementar en las embarcaciones de palangre para que sea usado por los pescadores en el momento en que se divisa una tortuga atrapada en sus aparejos. Ha de efectuar un corte a un sedal de 2mm de diámetro fabricado de acero trenzado. El corte debe realizarse cercano al anzuelo para evitar que la tortuga sea liberada con un tramo largo de sedal que a posteriori le ocasionará daños. El dispositivo ha de ser de gran eficacia, sencillo de utilizar, seguro tanto para el pescador cómo para la tortuga y con unos costes bajos de producción. Este dispositivo no se pretende comercializar, sino que se entregará de forma gratuita a cada embarcación de los puertos. Su implantación será a través de una organización no gubernamental de Catalunya, la Fundació CRAM, dedicada a la conservación y la recuperación de medio marino. El diseño ha tenido en cuenta el impacto medioambiental y su fácil montaje y mantenimiento. A lo largo del proyecto el dispositivo ha ido sufriendo cambios cualitativos que han dado lugar a una propuesta que cumple con las expectativas requeridas en los objetivos planteados inicialmente. El proyecto ha dado resultados satisfactorios, encontrando un sistema de corte efectivo del sedal, pudiendo de este modo liberar las tortugas marinas atrapadas en el arte de pesca de palangre de grandes capturas.
