The human being experiences humanitude through other humans. This happens mainly through eye contact, speech and touch. Without this "second" birth, recognition by their species, children's development would be seriously disrupted. People affected by dementia may find themselves cut off from the eye contact, speech and touch which have shaped them and, as a result, present pathological restlessness or develop immobilisation syndrome. The Gineste-Marescotti nursing care methodology, which is based on humanitude and comprises some 150 nursing care techniques, enables patients to undergo a "third" birth.
