This paper examines the state of research on the centers of gravity of solids at the end of the sixteenth century, with particular attention to Galileo Galilei’s early work on the subject. Through the analysis of manuscripts and correspondence, it reconstructs Galileo’s scientific engagement with Christoph Clavius and Guidobaldo del Monte, highlighting the role these scholars played in shaping his investigations and in the development of his demonstrations concerning centers of gravity.
