The problem of the relationship between archaic forms of power of the pater familias and the late republican emergence of the idea of property (dominium) has been represented in terms of continuity/development/evolution. On the contrary, it is possible to discern a different historical narrative that expresses an idea of discontinuity, which also valorizes the enucleation of a proprietary idea as a result of the science of Roman jurists.
