Reactive solute transport in variable density

Abstract

A pesar del gran avance que ha vivido la modelaci on del transporte reactivo en las ultimas d ecadas, s olo unos pocos estudios han abordado el problema del transporte reactivo en un ujo con densidad variable. En este trabajo se han desarrollado dos aproximaciones num ericas capaces de simular los procesos complejos comprendidos en este problema: decoupled conser- vative salinity (DCS), que no tiene en cuenta el efecto de las reacciones qu micas en el ujo y time lagged reactive salinity (TLRS), que s contempla dicho efecto. He comprobado el funcionamiento de los dos m etodos mediante el problema cl asico de Henry al que he a~nadido procesos geoqu micos para simular el transporte reactivo multicomponente. Ambas aproximaciones son capaces de reproducir correctamente el problema con errores de balance de masas y tiempos de CPU adecuados. Adem as, he aplicado el m etodo TLRS a un caso m as realista para estudiar la composici on del agua y los tiempos de residencia en acu feros costeros. Los tiempos de residencia de los componentes reactivos se ven claramente afectados por las reacciones de interacci on entre el agua subterr anea y el acu fero, aunque estas reacciones no conllevan una gran variaci on de las concentraciones de las especies acuosas. De esta manera, bajo las condiciones del estudio, el error cometido calculando la fracci on de mezcla de agua en base a una especie acuosa no conservativa es bajo.
