Abstract

El pterigion constituye una lesión fibrovascular de carácter benigno de la conjuntiva bulbar que avanza hacia el limbo esclerocorneal e invade la superficie de la córnea, pudiendo afectar la visión. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar de forma integral el efecto a corto plazo de la escisión del pterigion sobre la función lagrimal y la superficie conjuntival estableciendo posibles relaciones entre dichos cambios. Se incluyeron 59 ojos con pterigion del Hospital de Terrassa-CST. Se les realizó la escisión del pterigion mediante la técnica de autoinjerto limboconjuntival, pero sólo a 29 ojos se les aplicó mitomicina C intraoperatoria. Se estableció la morfología clínica del pterigion, su área y longitud máxima de invasión corneal. Las pruebas realizadas antes de la escisión y 1 mes después fueron: cuestionario Schein, osmolaridad, cristalización, BUT, Schirmer y citología de impresión. Se anotaron también las complicaciones postquirúrgicas. Un mes después de la escisión la sintomatología es igual o mejora. La película lagrimal y el epitelio conjuntival permanecen similares, con tendencia a la normalidad, excepto para la DCC en la zona de aplicación de la mitomicina C. Se puede afirmar que el uso del fármaco dificulta la recuperación global del tejido.
