Abstract

La nanoindentación es una técnica empleada en la caracterización de las propiedades mecánicas de pequeños volúmenes y capas delgadas. Comúnmente se utiliza para medir dureza (H), módulo elástico (E) y tenacidad de fractura (Kc). La medición de la tenacidad de fractura se basa en que la mayoría de los materiales cerámicos generan grietas en los vértices de la huella cuando son indentados con un indentador afilado (Vickers, Berkovich o Cube-Corner). La longitud de estas grietas está relacionada con la tenacidad de fractura asumiendo que las grietas son semicirculares. Sin embargo, una observación más detalla revela que no todas las grietas se ajustan al modelo semicircular y por lo tanto los valores de tenacidad obtenidos pueden ser erróneos. El objetivo de este proyecto es determinar la morfología de las grietas producidas por un indentador Cube-Corner en diferentes materiales. Para ello se realizarán reconstrucciones tridimensionales a partir de un conjunto de secciones obtenidas mediante un haz de iones focalizado (Focused Ion Beam). Esta técnica es conocida como tomografía 3D FIB. Finalmente, se evaluará la aplicabilidad de este método en el cálculo de la tenacidad.
