Abstract

Enzymatic wool processing is one of the procedures to achieve wool shrink resist effect. Of particular importance for the processing of keratin fibres (wool and Silk) are three different enzyme groups: lipases, lipoprotein lipases and proteases. Growing environmental problems in the industry have led the development of alternative processes. The waste water polluting substances in wool processing and finishing have to be removed by cost intensive processes. From an ecological point of view the use of enzymes is a useful alternative. In this paper we have studied the influence of the three commercial products: Bastosol WO liquid, Biosoft PW liquid and Novolan T. on woven worsted fabric under different conditions of concentration, temperature and treatment time based on a factorial plan. Through objective measurements and employing SIRO FAST equipment, enzymatic treatment results are evaluated considering the fabric tailorability. Optimum experimental conditions for Novolan T are established.
