Corrupción y capital social

Abstract

The corruption phenomena must be studied considering two meanings of the term, understood both as dimension that refers to the moral sphere of society, and as practice of misusing goods or means for obtaining individual advantages. Meanwhile the social capital concept, refers to the total of social relationships which are based on trust, cooperation and reciprocity, where trust is identified as a determining factor. Through literature review, some evidence was found on the existence of a potential mutual causality, where low levels of trust strengthen corruption, which is response undermines confidence in the government and society, generating a vicious circle. This article seeks to analyse these dynamics in order to identify possible ways to face the progress of corruption practices in the Latin American and Catalan contexts.
