Abstract

The European Higher Education Area (EHEA) demands a new teaching model where the student is the main actor and teachers are pushed into the background. This forces practitioners to review the current teaching methodology and the structure of many subjects. This work describes the case of Advanced Operating Systems, a subject taught in the third course of Computer Engineering, which has evolved from a master class paradigm to the learning by doing philosophy. It also shows how the assessment system and teaching methods have been adjusted, proving the acceptance of the new model by the students and improving their assimilation of knowledge. Finally, the aforementioned model used in this subject might be easily applied to other subjects with similar features.
